Camp Korea Speech
It is my pleasure to be here once again at Camp Korea. It seems like you have had a wonderful camp and also learned about the national treasures and the dynamice culture of Korea. I hope you have also realized that each of you is a national treasure of Korea AND of Canada.
I know I only have a few minutes, so I will take this opportunity to say a few important things in my role as a founding adviser of C3 and as Chairman of the National Unification Advisory Council of the Republic of Korea.
First, about C3. I am so proud of C3 for “bridging communities” and creating Camp Korea for you, our national treasures. Thank you the Camo Korea ambassadors and counselors, and all the volunteers and supporters. My grandchildren could not be here this year due to the later dates, but they love Camp Korea and so do I.
I hope Camp Korea will be around for a long time, for even my great-grandchildren to attend. Be proud of your Korean heritage and be proud Canadians. And give back to your community just like the volunteers of C3, to make Canada and our world a better place. You are the global leaders of tomorrow.
And that leads me to the 2nd topic – the peaceful unification of North and South Korea. NUAC (평화통일자문화의) is an advisory council to President of Korea on the issues of unification. I am the Chairman of the Vancouver (western Canada) chapter. We have 65 members who are appointed by the Korean government, to serve for 2 years on the council. Our job as a council is to also organize events in western Canada that raises awareness about unification and other North Korean related issues.
To achieve peace on the Korean peninsula, Korea will need the support of all overseas Koreans, including those who live in Canada. Canada can play a role in bringing about peace, as it did for East and West Germany, and recently, the United States and Cuba.
NUAC is a proud sponsor of C3. I hope you had a memorable camp and encourage you to learn more about the important issues so when time comes, you can make a difference.
